Our first responsibility as veterinarians is to provide highly skilled medical services. We have a modern, full-service veterinary hospital offering the latest in diagnostic and therapeutic capabilities to our patients. We can provide advanced diagnostic techniques including echocardiography, endoscopic procedures, and ultrasound. Whenever needed, your primary care doctor can call in consulting specialists in radiology, surgery, and internal medicine.
Veterinarians care for pets, livestock, sporting and laboratory animals, and protect humans against diseases carried by animals. They also advise owners on care and breeding. Most veterinarians are in private practice. Some have a general practice, treating all kinds of animals. The majority, however, treat only small companion animals such as dogs, cats, and birds. Others treat both small and larger animals, and some treat only large animals, such as cattle and horses.
Prospective veterinarians must graduate from a four-year program at an accredited college of veterinary medicine with a doctor of veterinary medicine (DVM) degree and obtain a license in order to practice.
Veterinary graduates who plan to work with specific types of animals or specialize in a clinical area such as surgery or radiology usually complete a one-year internship. In addition, veterinarians who seek board certification in a certain specialty must complete a two- to three-year residency program that provides intensive training in specialties.
All states require that veterinarians be licensed before they can practice.
Dr. Aspros attended Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine, graduating with his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree in 1975. He has a special interest in treating birds and exotic pets (ferrets, rabbits, small mammals, and reptiles). In 1989 he co-authored The Basic Bird Book, and has published original papers in various scientific journals over the course of his career.
Dr. Aspros is a member of the Cornell Council and the College of Veterinary Medicine Advisory Council. He has been a member of the Westchester County Board of Health since 1985, and has served as President of the Board since 1994. In 2000, Dr. Aspros was elected to the AVMA Council on Education, which is the leading accreditation body for veterinary medical colleges worldwide. Currently, Dr. Aspros serves as channel leader for the animalhealthchannel (www.animalhealthchannel.com). In 2001, Dr. Aspros was appointed as one of thirteen directors of the National Board of Veterinary Medical Examiners.
Dr. Aspros currently serves as Vice Chair of the Executive Board of the AVMA.

Dr. McKenzie received his bachelor's degree in chemistry/zoology from Duke University in 1980. He then went on to receive his Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1984. After graduating, he served an internship in mixed animal medicine and surgery at Apex Veterinary Hospital in Apex, North Carolina.
Dr. McKenzie is a member of the following professional organizations:
Dr. Arns graduated with her Doctor of Veterinary Medicine degree from Cornell University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1997. Her areas of special interest include emergency medicine, and exotic animal medicine. In her spare time, Dr. Arns collects and shows model horses, and has served as a past president of the North American Model Horse Shows Association.
Dr. Arns is a member of the following professional organizations:
Dr. Martin received her veterinary degree from the University of Liverpool in England in 1991. She has practiced in the companion animal field in both the U.K. and the U.S. since then. Her special interests include metabolic diseases and feline medicine. She lives in Westchester with her husband and two daughters and her two cats, Zipper and Alf Dodd, who have traveled across the Atlantic with her several times.
Dr. Martin is a member of the following organizations:
Dr. Hopper graduated from the University of California at Davis in 1983, and is a diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Internal Medicine with a specialty in internal medicine. He is an accomplished ultrasonographer and talented internist, and performs echocardiograms, abdominal ultrasounds, biopsies and endoscopic examinations for our patients.
Dr. Hess is a graduate of Yale University and received her DVM degree from the Tufts University School of Veterinary Medicine in 1994. She interned at the Animal Medical Center and progressed through a residency to become Head of the Avian and Exotic Pet Service. She is a Diplomate in the American Board of Veterinary Practitioners and was certified in avian practice in 1998.
Dr. Hess is a frequent speaker at both national and international veterinary educational conferences, and she has contributed to many veterinary texts related to avian and exotic animal medicine as well as to the scientific literature. She is an associate editor at the Journal of Avian Medicine and Surgery and a member of the executive board of the Association of Avian Veterinarians.
Dr. Hess lives in Northern Westchester with her husband, two sons, her pionus parrot (Dale), and her four cats (Tyler, Bean, Gizmo and Bingo).
Active in the American Diabetes Association, she is currently a member of the Leadership Council of the New York City chapter.
